Year 8 Bletchley Park trip

Last Friday, staff from the computing department and a group of our Year 8 students visited Bletchley Park, the home of the code breakers (incl. Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman) and Britain's best-kept secret! From Ancient Greece to the modern day, people have used increasingly complex codes and ciphers to communicate secretly and keep information secure, and enigma was one such cipher. Throughout the day, students learnt about the role places like Bletchley Park played in securing Allied victory during WW2 and had the rare opportunity to use a genuine enigma machine! Students also took part in an ‘Intercept to Intelligence’ workshop where they had to learn morse code and decrypt the secret messages! Students also had the chance to explore the facility and speak to and hear from experienced workshop leaders and tour guides!
