Rigby House
Edith Rigby
- A suffragette who worked hard to improve the lives of women and girls working in the local mills of Preston in 1890’s.
- She founded a night school in Preston aimed at educating women and girls allowing many to continue their education which would have otherwise stopped at the age of 11.
- Edith refused to wear clothes and footwear appropriate for women in her era, regularly dressing in men's clothing. She was also one of the first women in Preston to ride a bike!
- Edith’s views and some of her actions were quite radical, however, many people respected her due to her passion and contributions to her cause.
