Transition in English
Successful transition is something we are passionate about and we have strived to find new ways of ensuring this is smooth, worthwhile and aids as much progress as possible, whilst building on the vital knowledge acquired from primary school. We understand it is a daunting time for both parents and children, therefore, we have worked hard to implement a successful approach in English.
At the start of year 7, we begin with an engaging and interesting unit of work in which we embed and revise skills and knowledge from KS2, as well as introducing new concepts, new approaches and new skills. In recent years, we have created an entirely new curriculum that builds on best practice and maximises progress. Based on extensive educational research, our staff have created a specialised and innovative unit of work to enable a smooth transition for the students. They will read challenging texts, engage with interesting ideas and themes, as well as beginning to understand how context supports textual study. In addition, they will continue to build on their spellings for homework and embed powerful knowledge to maximise their journey through high school. Rest assured that your child will be well nurtured, appropriately challenged and extremely engaged throughout year 7 and beyond.
