Cardiac Risk In The Young
22 November 2024
Last week, as part of the official handover of money raised during our annual Docks to Disney event, staff and students welcomed Barry and Paula Hesmondhalgh into our school, who are both representatives from the national charity - Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). We were so pleased that we could share stories of this year’s Docks to Disney event with them and it was great to show them the contribution from our school family and friends in achieving the 6,777km distance across the Atlantic Ocean.
Barry and Paula became involved with CRY after sadly losing their son Matthew to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome at the young age of 22yrs. Since then, they have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the charity and their fundraising efforts have helped to provide much needed screening for young people, in and around the North-West region.
Both Barry and Paula were full of admiration for our school and could not believe the lengths students go to, in order to achieve our annual D2D goal! It was great to look back at the video montage of the day, just to remind us, that Docks to Disney truly is a TEAM event!
There was a great sense of pride amongst all of us as David Koerten handed over a cheque for a whopping £5,000 – the total sum raised by all this year. We really know the funds will be put to very good use!
So, on behalf of CRY and on behalf of the ACSC D2D squad – we offer one final, heartfelt thank you to all – we could never do this without you!
Hope to see you all next year!
